The New York Red Bulls have been enjoying themselves on the field in recent weeks, with the NYRB having been able to enjoy a number of victories so far this season.

The team has managed to climb to second in the MLS Eastern Conference after the first 10 games played, with Gerhard Struber’s side having managed to win half of them thus far. In addition, they have managed to draw three further games, suffering just two defeats in the process.

New York Red Bulls will want to keep things as positive as they are

Of course, there will be many at the Red Bull Arena that will want to see the good times continue to roll for the side when it comes down to MLS action, as they have only been able to reach the MLS Cup Final on one occasion; a losing effort to the Columbus Crew way back in 2008.

The Red Bulls have tasted success in other competitions, though, including winning the regular season Supporter’s Shield on three occasions (2013, 2015, and 2018), whilst reaching the U.S. Open Cup Final twice but suffering defeats - once in 2003 and in 2017.

However, 2022 could be the year that the team finally gets its hands on the U.S. Open title, as they have managed to continue to advance in the competition after another fine performance.

The NYRB managed to defeat D.C. United 3-0 in the Round of 32 in order to progress to the Round of 16, with another exceptional road performance having been enjoyed by Struber’s players. Goals from Luquinhas, John Tolkin, and Zach Ryan were enough for the club to keep this potential dream alive after defeating Hartford Athletic in the previous round of the competition.

Philadelphia Union up next as NYRB encounter biggest challenge yet

Naturally, there will be many fans that will be looking for the New Yorkers to use the momentum and the confidence potentially gained from the impressive win on the road to their best as the team will take on one of its toughest challenges of the MLS season this weekend.

Indeed, Struber’s team will go up against current MLS Eastern Conference leaders Philadelphia Union on Saturday, May 14 at Subaru Park.

As mentioned, the Union are currently top of the table heading into this weekend’s slate of fixtures, with Jim Curtin’s side having been able to acquire a solitary point more than the New York Red Bulls from the 10 fixtures that they have played thus far. Five wins have been achieved thus far, but there have been four draws and just one defeat in that 10-game period, too.

Both teams are evenly matched across a variety of different metrics, though, which is why this fixture will have a lot of interest attached to it when it is played this weekend.

The Union has been able to score 15 goals and has conceded just eight, however the Red Bulls have managed to score one more goal than their rivals, whilst conceding the same total of goals. With this in mind, it is very easy to see why so many are excited for the encounter at Subaru Park, especially as fans of the road team will be able to enjoy placing a bet on their favorite soccer club should they wish to.

Online sports betting for NJ wagers has been able to boom since it was made a legal activity within the state and there are a lot of club’s fans situated within this area of the United States. The New Jersey population - and those in surrounding areas such as New York - are known to be extremely passionate about the teams that represent them in professional sports, therefore there is likely to be a lot of interest in this competition.

Indeed, whilst there will be a number of eyes on this fixture and the potential outcome of the game, there will be many that may be thinking about placing a wager on an entirely different market if they can find odds available for it given the news that has started to emerge. According to reports that have begun to emerge, Caden Clark’s time at the Red Bull Arena could be coming to an end rather imminently and perhaps a little more prematurely.

What is the story regarding Caden Clark?

The young attacking midfielder is currently on loan at the NYRB from RB Leipzig, however the deal has gone far from what anyone would have anticipated, or had even hoped would happen.

This is because the teenager has only been able to make three substitute appearances in the MLS for the franchise this season. It should be noted that an injury whilst on duty for the United States under-20 national team has halted his progress, too.

However, it has since been revealed that whilst the Red Bulls have the ability to extend his loan deal for an additional length of time, the player is said to be in discussions with his parent club who are also in discussions with other European clubs about potentially moving the player out of the Big Apple and to them on the continent.

It has been claimed that Clark - who New York had to re-acquire after selling to Leipzig - has multiple clubs interested in him and his services, with Belgian side Club Brugge, said to be potential suitors for the teen.

Whilst NYRB is said to have the option to extend his time in New York, it is understood that for that to happen, the New Yorkers would have to give him more playing time in the MLS this season in the coming weeks. This would then mean that he could compete in some of the franchise’s biggest games of the season thus far.

However, fans may still have to wait a little while to see him in action as it has been claimed that he is still recovering from the injury he picked up in the game for the United States under-20s and ultimately missed the game against D.C. United.

Clark will undoubtedly have to show that he deserves a place in the team, though, as Luquinhas is perhaps the player he would have to replace, and it would be very difficult at this moment to see the designated star be eased out of the side any time soon.
