Having won the Premier League in four of the last five seasons, it would be fair to say that
Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City side has dominated the English domestic game for some
time.
However, the battle to secure a maiden Champions League success is still one that haunts
the Etihad Stadium club, but transfer business conducted over the summer may be just what
the doctor ordered.
The signing of goal machine Erling Haaland has already proven a success, with the 22-year-
old racking up an astonishing 12 goals in his first eight games for the club, and now might be
the right time to place a bet on Man City securing the ultimate double.
Backing a great bet is only as profitable as the sportsbook you choose to use to place it, and
that goes for any sport. Take, for instance, the NFL, where the new season just got
underway, finding the right provider after doing the relevant research to pinpoint the pros and
cons, about which you can
read more here. It’s only after you’ve located the best NFL
sportsbook that you should then consider your first bet.
With this in mind, and before the soccer season gets any older, you need to back Man City
to win both the Premier and Champions League titles in 2022/23.
Guardiola’s squad, in recent seasons, has lacked a cutting edge up front. Clearly, this hasn’t
stopped the club from scoring freely (especially against weaker opposition), but it does mean
that for some of the key big games, they’ve been left found wanting.
The club hasn’t had a prolific forward for a few seasons now. This is evidenced by the fact
that in each of their last three seasons, their top scorer has emerged either from the wing
(Raheem Sterling and Riyad Mahrez in 2019-20 & 2021-22, respectively) or from the
midfielder (Ilkay Gundogan in 2020-21).
Sergio Aguero went off the boil and suffered injuries in the last years of his glittering City
career, and Gabriel Jesus, now proving a massive hit at Arsenal, was more of a bit-part
player and often featured out wide. Now, with Erling Haaland on board, the club are arguably
more rounded than ever.
Guardiola was happy to streamline his squad over the summer, allowing the likes of Jesus,
Oleksandr Zinchenko, and Sterling to leave, and will now look to boost his squad with
youthful prospects that are already starting to show what they can offer the club.
Now, when a big chance falls, especially in massive games against genuine rivals, when
chances come at a premium, Haaland is the kind of player that simply doesn’t miss. That
kind of weapon, when used in conjunction with
creative masters like Kevin De Bruyne and
Bernardo Silva, as well as others, makes Man City a team to be feared.
They’ve already started to show just how effective their new line-up can be, City scoring a
massive 24 goals in their first seven Premier and Champions League matches while
conceding just six in return.
Frankly, if Man City can’t capture a Champions League trophy with their current set-up, then
they never will!
