Juventus Milan Derby

Italian football teams Juventus and Milan, representing the largest cities of northern Italy Turin and Milan respectively, clashed in another derby match last weekend. Since they first encounter back in 1901 a fierce rivalry grew between them with Juventus winning almost half of the times.

Being the two most decorated teams in the history of Calcio, a very entertaining game was expected but as if it was a matter of betting bonuses there was no guarantee of a clear winner. Juventus came leading the tournament with a 16-point lead over Milan which was in the 12th position of the table.

The game proved difficult for Juventus, since they did not show their best performance. On the contrary, Milan played very well but it was the Argentine Paulo Dybala, La Joya (The Jewel), who came on as a substitute and scored the winning goal at the 77th minute after cut through a defender and sliced the ball into the back of the net to make the final 1-0. It was his seventh goal against Milan in Serie A matches.

Juventus' biggest star, Cristiano Ronaldo, did not have one of his best days and left the field visibly upset after have been subbed off in the 55th minute by manager Maurizio Sarri. This was the second straight match where Ronaldo was brought off and he clearly showed his disgust heading straight down the tunnel.

Maurizio Sarri spoke to Sky Sport Italia after the game and said: “We must thank Ronaldo, because he made a sacrifice to be there at all tonight in a difficult situation.” He added, "He did everything possible to play, but I saw he was not well and thought it best to take him off. It's only natural a player is going to be irritated to leave the pitch, especially when he worked so hard to be there. Over the last month, he has had this little knee problem, he had a knock in training and it hurt the collateral ligament. When he trains at high intensity or plays, it unbalances him, so he ends up overcompensating and it damages the calf and thigh muscles. It is affecting his performances and he is not at his best at the moment.”

Juventus remains unbeaten with 16 games in all competitions on this season. Now, after the international break where the friendly matches of the FIFA national teams will be played, the Old Lady will face the Spanish Atletico in the Champions League, but that is another story.
