Havertz Key for Blues' Title Push

Havertz Key for Blues' Title Push

It might have been a slow start to life at Chelsea for big-money signing Kai Havertz, but the Blues midfielder has been shining at the business end of the season. Now seemingly settled in at Stamford Bridge, the Germany international looks set to keep shining next season, as the west London outfit look to end their wait for a Premier League title.

Slow Start For Havertz

The pressure was on for Havertz to hit the ground running following his move from Bayer Leverkusen to Stamford Bridge over the summer. Those who use sites like Sporticos to follow football today, and keep up to date with the stats of teams like Chelsea, will have seen it took time for Havertz to adapt to the English game. That’s not entirely unusual for some big names that make the move to the Premier League, and perhaps the 21-year-old would have adapted sooner were manager Thomas Tuchel at the helm from the start.

The departure of Frank Lampard and the introduction of the former Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain boss Tuchel has seen Chelsea come on leaps and bounds. Havertz was key in helping the Blues reach the Champions League final, as he was instrumental in overcoming La Liga giants Real Madrid in the semis.

While Chelsea have fallen well short of mounting a Premier League title challenge this season, with Havertz and his teammates showing signs of progress, Tuchel’s side look like serious contenders for the English crown.

Havertz Now Living Up to Price-Tag

Reports have suggested Havertz will become Chelsea’s record signing if they go on to beat fellow English outfit Manchester City in the Champions League final. The Blues paid an initial 80million euros for the player, but there were add-ons included in the deal. It’s now believed Havertz will cost Chelsea closer to 100million euros with the add-ons due to Bayer Leverkusen if they lift the Champions League trophy this summer.

While the sum will represent a record-breaking deal for the Londoners, it will be seen as money well spent for another success in the Champions League. Meanwhile, plans will already be in place to get the squad ready to mount a serious challenge for the Premier League title.

Tuchel has worked wonders in developing the Chelsea defence since his arrival at The Bridge, and that has been a key factor in the Blues' success at the end of a busy campaign. With new signings expected to come through the door this summer, it looks like Chelsea can narrow the gap on current frontrunners Man City.

If the Blues are to enjoy success in the Premier League next term and win a first title since the 2016-17 season, then it is highly likely Havertz will have played a key role. The German is a unique player, who can be a game-changer on his day. City have Kevin de Bruyne, and now Chelsea have their own playmaker who might be the difference for the Blues, in what will be an intriguing Premier League title race next season.
