Best Formation

With the array of attacking talent at Jürgen Klopp’s disposal, the best-attacking formation seems to be the 4-3-3 formation. The reason why this formation is probably the best for Liverpool is that it keeps the same defensive structure that Liverpool had last season while at the same time accommodating Liverpool’s fabulous front three. Players in their positions

Goalkeeper

This is perhaps one of the obvious positions when it comes to Liverpool’s team sheet this season. New arrival Alisson, the Brazilian goalkeeper who made his mark at Roma will obviously assume the number one jersey. There are already reports that Simon Mignolet may be on his way out while Loris Karius woes in the Champions League final certainly make him second best at the moment.

Right Back

The right-back spot will be hotly contested by Nathaniel Clyne and Trent Alexander Arnold. Alexander Arnold rose to prominence last year following Clyne’s long-term injury and has shown great ability. The hunch is, Alexander Arnold will retain his position.

Right Centre Back

Much maligned centre-back Dejan Lovren is probably going to remain as the first choice in this position at least depending on his performances on the first Premier League games. Joel Matip will be fighting heavily for the same spot.

Left Centre Back

Liverpool splashed over $70 million to bring Virgil Van Dijk to Merseyside and it’s a no-brainer that Van Dijk will be the automatic starter in the centre back pairing on the left side.

Left Back

Andrew Robertson quickly adapted to life in Merseyside staking a claim in the left back starting spot. Odds are, he is going to start ahead of either James Milner or Alberto Moreno.

Defensive Midfielder

Jordan Henderson has been a key cog in the Liverpool defensive midfield position for years now and as the captain of the side, he surely is going to retain his spot despite the arrival of new players.

Right Midfield

Playing of the right of the midfield will probably be Fabinho, the new arrival from Monaco. Fabinho is naturally a defensive midfield but it’s impossible at the moment for him to dispose of the club captain Jordan Henderson and take his position. Therefore, he will have to contend with a place of the right.

Left Midfield

On the left side of the midfield, it’s probably going to be Naby Keita starting. A box-to-box midfielder who loves operate centrally, Keita will have to adapt to life quickly on the left side.

Right Wing

Mo Salah was simply sensational last season and it’s a given that he will occupy the same starting position that he did last season when he broke all sorts of records.

Left Wing

Sadio Mane was a key part of Liverpool’s attacking trio last season and it’s probably obvious that he too will be occupying his favourite spot on the left side of the attack.

Centre Forward

Roberto Firmino came to Liverpool not as an out and out striker but as a creative midfielder who could also play as a winger. However, he was turned into a centre-forward but Jürgen Klopp and has been outstanding in that position. The odds are, Firmino will occupy the same role and complete Liverpool’s ‘Fabulous Front Three’.
